Don’t forget to come out to the Ice Cream social tomorrow evening, Friday, May 10th, at the Lake Marion community center between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. If you have not registered yet, please take the time to log into your account at https://lakemarionlasers.swimtopia.com/ and completing the 2019 Registration. Pre-ordered spirit wear will be available for pickup and our team swimsuit vendor will be in attendance with suits available for purchase. Note: The suit has not changed from last year.
We are very pleased to introduce this year’s coaching staff:
Head Coach Jorge Silva: Jorge will be returning to Lake Marion this year as Head Coach. For those of you who know Jorge, you know that he brings a wealth of experience to this role. Jorge is the owner and Head Coach of the Hydro-Sonic Tiburones, a year-round swim club in Gaithersburg, MD. Jorge has also served as Head Coach for numerous swim teams in the MCSL and became our Head Coach last summer. He has experience with swimmers of all ages and levels – from Junior Nationals swimmers to developmental age group swimmers to minis. Jorge is also a fellow parent for daughters Ava and Catherine who swim for Lake Marion. We are excited and fortunate to have Jorge returning as our Head Coach.
Assistant Coach Greg Afolabi-Brown: Greg will be returning to Lake Marion this year after completing his sophomore year at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, MD, where he also swam collegiately. Greg has swum for the Lasers since his pre-team days and was a year-round RMSC swimmer. We are excited and fortunate to have Greg returning to coach another season.
Assistant Coach Kenny Afolabi-Brown: Kenny will be returning to Lake Marion this year after completing his sophomore year at Towson University in Towson, MD, where he also swam collegiately. Kenny has swum for the Lasers since his pre-team days and was a year-round RMSC swimmer. We are excited and fortunate to have Kenny returning to coach another season.
Pre-Team Coach & Assistant Coach Taylor Stanback: We welcome Taylor to the Lake Marion coaching staff. Taylor was a swimmer for Lake Marion during the summer of 2016 (her junior year in high school), so some of you may remember her. A graduate of Gaithersburg HS, Montgomery Village resident, swimmer and coach for Montgomery Country Club, and former RMSC and NCAP club team swimmer, Taylor has grown up in the swimming world. She is currently completing her sophomore year at Frostburg State University, where she is majoring in Sports Medicine and Exercise Science with an emphasis on Pre-Physical Therapy and a minor in Coaching. Taylor also swims collegiately for Frostburg. Please extend a warm Lasers welcome to Taylor. Taylor will have primary responsibility for coaching the pre-team program. Taylor will also help coach all age groups when not coaching the pre-team.
Assistant Coach Ryan Frohman: Ryan is a current 15-18 swimmer and will be graduating Gaithersburg High School this month. Ryan swims year-round for RMSC and has swum the last four years for Gaithersburg HS. For the last two summers, Ryan has served as a Junior Assistant Coach for Lake Marion. This summer, Ryan will be assuming an Assistant Coach role, while continuing to swim his final season for the Lasers.
Junior Assistant Coach Ava Silva: We welcome Ava to the Lake Marion coaching staff this summer. Ava is a current 15-18 swimmer and is a rising junior at Good Counsel High School. Ava swims year-round for the Hydro-Sonic Tiburones and for Good Counsel HS. Additionally, she has experience with both clinics and lesson programs with the Tiburones. Ava served as a CIT for the Lasers last summer, and before that, was a helper with the pre-team program. Ava will be focused on coaching 10 & Under swimmers.
Junior Assistant Pre-Team Coach Maya Barrett: We welcome Maya to the Lake Marion coaching staff this summer. Maya is a current 15-18 swimmer and is a rising sophomore at Gaithersburg High School. Maya is a dedicated athlete in several sports, including swimming and basketball. She has swum year-round for RMSC, JFD and the Hydro-Sonic Tiburones. Maya has experience as a coach/instructor for both clinics and lesson programs with JFD. Maya served as a CIT for the Lasers last summer, and before that, was a helper with the pre-team program. Maya will be focused on coaching the pre-team program.
We wish Coach Austyn, Coach Jacqueline, Coach Lauren and Coach Evan the best as they prepare for graduations, internships and other endeavors this summer. We are sorry to see them go but wish them all the best in the future.
