Did you know it takes nearly 50 volunteers to run a single home meet? To make this possible, we use a point system to track parent participation. Each swim team family is responsible for earning 10 volunteer points by the end of the season. Most families reach this goal easily by helping out at 2 or 3 meets, and there are roles available for every comfort level and ability.

But how do I earn my volunteer points?

Volunteer roles are assigned point values based on time commitment and level of responsibility. Ways to earn points include:

Full Meet Jobs: Typically, worth 2-3 points per meet. Previous experience may be required.

  • Announcer
  • Clerk of Course
  • Head Timer/Assistant Head Timer
  • Griller
  • Computer Automation
  • Hospitality
  • Ribbon Writer
  • Computer Scorer/Verifier

Half Meet Jobs: Worth 1 point per shift. No experience required!

  • Timer
  • Concession sales
  • Runner

Meet and concessions set up or take down: Earns 1 point per shift and can be combined with other jobs that occur during the actual meet!

Trained Positions offer higher point values due to required experience and official certification (typically 4 points per meet):

  • Referee
  • Chief Judge
  • Stroke & Turn Judge
  • Starter

Non-Meet Roles: Points can also be earned by assisting with our social events, typically 1 point per shift.

  • Pasta Dinner set up or clean up
  • Banquet set up, clean up, check in, server, etc.

IMPORTANT VOLUNTEER POLICIES

  • Self-Replacement: If you sign up for a shift and cannot attend, you are responsible for finding your own replacement to ensure the meet runs smoothly.
  • Tracking: Families are encouraged to track their points through the team's management platform, SwimTopia, where point totals are updated regularly.
  • Job Sign Up Openings: The first half of the season will be available for volunteer job sign ups at the time of registration. The second half of the season will open on Monday, June 8 at 8am to ensure all families have an opportunity to volunteer.
  • End-of-Season Billing: A $250 fine will be assessed at the conclusion of the summer swim season for any family that has not reached the 10-point threshold.
  • No Partial Refunds: Fines are generally not prorated; the full amount may be charged regardless of whether a family earned zero points or nine points.
  • Pre-team Only Exemption: Families who are only on Pre-team, and do not have another child on swim team, are exempt from having to fulfill the season's volunteer points requirement.
