All Comers & Time Trials Recap
The annual All Comers meet went smoothly this morning and we finished before Noon! We had some great swims in every age group and look forward to a great season. Thank you to all of the parent volunteers with a special thank you to Terry and Abby Wilcox that came out and volunteered, even though Abby was not swimming today! We cannot run a meet without volunteers and we appreciate every volunteer regardless of the role!
Congratulations to Sam Arias who broke two team records today. Sam broke a 14 year old record in 12 & Under 100IM with a time of 1:18.26 and broke the Girls 11-12 50M Breaststroke with a time of 39.16.
Congratulations to the following swimmers that just joined the team and swam in their first swim meet:
For A Meets, it is CRITICAL that swimmer’s availability is declared through Swimtopia. In order to do so please, take the following actions;
Log into your Swimtopia account by clicking here or go to https://lakemarionlasers.swimtopia.com/swim_meets:
- Click on "Week 1A 2019"
- Select "Edit" under the swimmer's name.
- From the drop down select "Available For This Meet" or "Not Available For This Meet."
- Click Save
This will save HC Jorge or myself from E-mailing, calling and/or texting you during the week. Please declare your swimmer's availability as soon as possible, but no later than 6:15 PM (end of practice) on Wednesday, June 12th. Please do this even if you don't think your swimmer would participate in an A Meet, sometimes, swimmers are not available because of other commitments.
Swimmer availability for an A meet is critical. If HC Jorge puts you in the line-up, and you're unavailable and we have empty lanes - this will mean a loss of points.
We know that people can fall ill & life can get in the way of having fun, but please communicate with your A rep or HC Jorge to let us know that you cannot attend. This then gives us the ability to send another swimmer.
Please, help us so that we can field a full complement of swimmers for our dual meets.
A Meets are seeded by HC Jorge ONLY. Of course, he takes advice from his coaching staff but the final decisions are his. If you are not listed in the line-up for an A meet we encourage everyone to participate in B meets. B meets are for up & coming swimmers who are seeking to perfect their strokes & get into an A meet line-up.
Generally speaking, swimmers can elect what to swim in a B meet unless HC Jorge makes the decision that the swimmer is simply not ready, or if the swimmer swam that event at the prior A meet.
For detailed information we ask that you review the Team Handbook in the "About" section available on our homepage.
A Meet Week 1A - Saturday, June 15th
We will be swimming at home against Garrett Park on Saturday, June 15th. The line up will be finalized by end of day on Wednesday. HC Jorge will communicate his decisions on who will swim in this meet on Wednesday night or Thursday morning. The line-up will then be formally exchanged with Garrett Park by Noon on Friday morning.
In keeping with Laser traditions, we will have a weekly theme for each A & B meet. For week 1 the theme is Neon so bring out all of your neon gear.
This theme will also be the one used for our first B meet against Plantations at home on Tuesday, June 18th.
We will not have any age group activities or whole team activities until after MCPS ends the school year. Please stay tuned for the activities to be posted and further information from our Social Chair.
I know that this is a lot of information. 2019 season has officially begun.
Wishing everyone still in school a fun final week!
