Hello Lasers! Here is your first “weekly update” of the season. Here we go!

Parent Information Session

It was great to see some of our new families at our Parent Information Session on Friday evening. Welcome to the Laser Family!

All Comers

Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped make sure the MVF time trials were a success! It was so awesome to feel the excitement and energy for our first meet of the season.

We would like to recognize Sam Arias who set a new team record in 15-18 breaststroke with a time of 1:21.96. Way to go Sam!

We also had swimmers who achieved all-star times:

A Meet Week 1 - Saturday, June 17

Our first A meet is at Lakelands at 9 AM this Saturday, June 17th (960 Main St, Gaithersburg, MD 20878). Please declare your swimmer’s availability through Swimtopia for this and every A meet! Here’s how!

Log in to your Swimtopia account by clicking here or go to https://lakemarionlasers.swimtopia.com/swim_meets

1. Click on Week 1A 2023.
2. Select Edit under the swimmer’s name.
3. From the drop down, select Available For This Meet or Not Available For This Meet.
4. Click Save.

Please declare your swimmer’s availability no later than 6:30 PM (the end of practice) on Wednesday, June 14th. Please do this even if you don’t think your swimmer would participate in an A meet.

A meets are seeded by the coaching staff. The lineup will be finalized by the end of the day on Wednesday. Coach Jorge will communicate who will swim in this meet on Thursday morning. The line-up will then be formally exchanged with Lakelands by noon on Friday.

Swimmers’ availability for an A meet is critical. We know that people can fall ill and circumstances can change, so please communicate with me or Jorge to let us know if you are selected to swim and are no longer able to attend. This gives us the ability to fill the lane so we can earn points.

If you are not listed in the line-up for an A meet, we encourage you to participate in B meets. Our first B meet will be at HOME on Wednesday, June 21. B meets are for up and coming swimmers who are seeking to perfect their strokes and prepare for A meets. Swimmers can elect to swim in a B meet unless the coaching staff makes the decision that the swimmer is simply not ready, or if the swimmer swam that event at the prior A meet. For more detailed information on B meet eligibility, you can review the Team Handbook in the About section on our homepage.

Theme

In keeping with Laser traditions, we have a weekly spirit theme. For week 1, the theme is TROPICAL, so show your Laser pride by decking yourself out from head to toe in all things tropical! We will be recognizing two swimmers for showing their LM spirit at the team lunch after the Lakelands meet. (Look for a separate email about Friday night’s pasta dinner and the post-meet lunch.)

Fridge

Our team fridge didn’t make it through the winter and doesn’t work anymore. If you know of anyone who would like to donate a refrigerator to the team, please let a committee member know. Thank you!
