Friday update: B meet wrap-up, pasta & tie dye, A meet AWAY

Happy Friday Laser Family! It's been a very busy week, with a busy weekend to come!

We had a wonderful first B meet last night. We had 62 swimmers, many of whom swam in a B meet for the first time! We appreciate everyone who volunteered, as we can’t run a home meet without a ton of dedicated family members. Congratulations to the spirit award winners: Makaya Vanderpuije, Ben Page and the Nguyen Family!

We hope to see you in the community room at 6:30 PM tonight for our weekly team building event, our pasta potluck dinner. Be sure to sign up to bring a large dish to share! We are also offering our first opportunity for our team members to Tie Dye tonight. See Ms. Najarro and Ms. Seager in the grassy area off the back deck with your own white shirt! The team will provide the dye. The other opportunities to Tie Dye are on Monday, from 8:45 to 10:30 AM and from 6:30-7:15 AM.

Tomorrow morning’s meet is AWAY at Carderock Springs. Please review the attached line up, as Coach Nick has made some adjustments based on the results of last night’s meet. As a reminder, Coach Nick made the Saturday morning relay teams ahead of time to give swimmers and parents an idea of who will be swimming. However, relay teams at the A meet are dependent on how well swimmers swim and are subject to change up until the time of the relay. This means that once again, you must check with Coach Nick before leaving the meet.

Carderock Springs is located at 8200 Hamilton Spring Ct, Bethesda, MD 20817. Parking is available in their pool lot. If spaces run short, you can park on their basketball court, which is part of the pool parking lot, adjacent to the clubhouse. Please do not park on the circle or the short road between the circle and the parking lot. If anyone needs to street park in the neighborhood, please honor the signs that are posted.

The theme is Red, White & Blue! (We will be wearing our Tie Dye for our Week 4 spirit theme!) Come dressed in your patriotic attire to show your team spirit. Our warm up begins promptly at 8:20 AM so please arrive no later than 8:00 AM so swimmers have time to check in with their age level coach and be in the water on time.

Volunteers, you will find the meet timeline at the end of this message so you know when and where to report for your briefings. Thank you for your help!

Our team area is in the mulch area, closest to the starter. The ground cover is a bark/wood chip and so they recommend wearing flip-flops. They let me know that there is plenty of shade in the morning and they have several canopies for our team area. The deep side of the pool will be in shade until about 11. Remember to stay in the team area and be ready to report to the clerks of course (Ms. Angie Niemiec and Ms. Beth Silva) prior to your events! Chairs will be set up in the viewing area on the deck next to Lane 1, but seating appears to be limited in our team area - so you may want to bring your own chairs!

Carderock Springs will have limited concessions including breakfast pastries/donuts and drinks available, plus a vending machine that accepts credit cards. They will have hospitality set up for volunteers. Volunteers are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles, but water will be provided in plastic bottles.

I will send the meet program once I receive it. Print out a family copy and/or review it with your swimmers so they know the events/heats/lanes they are in.

Our team lunch after the meet will be at Panera near the Sam’s (up our way at 598 N Frederick Ave, Gaithersburg, MD 20877). You can order once you arrive or order online on your way. At lunch, the coaching staff will hand out ribbons and we will find out who will be awarded the Saturday spirit awards. We hope you can join us!
