Parade Details, New Mark Commons AWAY meet details & more
Happy Wednesday Lasers! It was great to see everyone’s smiling faces this morning for our team picture!

We had 76 swimmers participate in last night’s meet! A shout out to all of the swimmers who swam an event for the first time. Congratulations to Hadleigh Nakamura, Valente Labuguen III and The Eaton Family for winning the spirit awards!
MVF Independence Day Parade on FRIDAY, JULY 3
All swimmers and their families are welcome to march with us to show the community our Laser Pride! Come dressed in RED, WHITE and BLUE!
Please arrive at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints’ parking lot no later than 9:45 AM. (Parking is available at North Creek Community Center.) The judging of the floats will be at 9:30 AM and the parade begins at 10 AM.
The Church will once again be generously providing a complimentary pancake breakfast for all parade participants before the parade - so arrive early if you’d like to eat before marching!
From MVF: The current forecast indicates that we may experience unusually hot temperatures during the parade. Please come prepared for the heat by bringing a water bottle, wearing lightweight clothing, and staying hydrated throughout the morning.
EXPECTED EXTREME TEMPERATURES
The forecast is calling for temperatures over 100 degrees as we move towards the holiday weekend with even higher heat indexes. It is imperative that every swimmer takes the necessary action to stay hydrated NOW!
- Every swimmer must bring a water bottle to practice and to the meets.
- Avoid extended periods of time in direct sunlight.
- Avoid over exertion - rest when you can.
- Seek out shade if you are outside and at the meets.
**As always, if you are concerned about the forecast, please use your own discretion and do what is best for your swimmer.**

Week 4A Meet AWAY at New Mark Commons on THURSDAY evening - NO PM PRACTICES due to the meet!!!!
We are excited for our 4A meet THURSDAY - tomorrow night, AWAY at New Mark Commons. Location: 607 Tegner Way, Rockville, MD 20850 (approx. 20 minutes from Lake Marion). Parking may be a challenge, so please allow extra time. This map shows available street parking, as well as the location of their parking lot.
The theme is RED, WHITE AND BLUE! Come dressed to show your team spirit and to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States of America!
- Arrive by 5 PM, allowing enough time to park.
- Swimmers must check in with their coaches upon arrival:
- 10 & Under: Coach Dana
- 11-12: Coach Izzy
- 13 & Up: Coach Ellie
Essential Meet Details
- Our warmups will be from 5:20 - 5:40 PM.
- Stroke and turn briefing at 5:20 PM near the pool gate
- Briefing for all timers (first and second half) at 5:40 PM near the baby pool
- The team area for Lake Marion is to the right as you enter the pool area, near the “Start” end of the pool. Deck space is limited but we would love it if some families could bring some tents to shade our swimmers on what will be a VERY hot evening! Families can also set up tents outside the fenced area.
- They will sell concessions with Cup Noodles, pre-packaged food items, and assorted drinks during the meet.
- The Taste of Montreal Food Truck will be parked outside the gates.
- Please make sure you bring water bottles so everyone stays hydrated.
- I will send out the meet program once I receive it from New Mark Commons.
We hope the team will stay for the entire meet to cheer on our second half swimmers as well as the second half relays (Open Medley and 14 & under Freestyle). To ensure we can fill all lanes for the relays, please do not leave the meet until your swimmer has checked out with their coach, unless you have already made prior arrangements.

- This meet is open to all swimmers 9 and under. There is a $12 entry free with a maximum of 4 events per swimmer. Each swimmer will receive a souvenir swim cap.
